Maurine Nyasulu's story is one of courage, resilience, and the transformative power of community support. It stands as one of proud milestone in EHAP’s efforts to empower girls and end child marriage.

At just 17 years old, Maurine Nyasulu has already faced big challenges. While in Standard 8, she got involved in a relationship with a boy and became pregnant. She dropped out of school and got married soon after. But her story didn’t end there. The Community Child Protection Committee stepped in to help. They followed up on her case, spoke with her and her family, and supported her to leave the marriage. Maurine was also given counselling and encouraged to go back to school.
She agreed and made a brave decision to return to class, even while pregnant. She worked hard and passed her Primary School Leaving Certificate Exams (PLSCE). Today, she’s a Form 1 student at Thimalala Secondary School and now a mother to a baby girl.
Maurine hails from village headmanship Sololongwe in Katula. Her strength and determination have inspired many people around her. Her story shows that with support, girls can overcome tough situations and chase their dreams.
EHAP is proud to walk alongside girls like Maurine. Together with families and communities, we are creating a future where girls are safe, supported, and empowered to succeed.
